Dao (Chinese: 刀; pinyin: dāo) is a category of single-edge Chinese sabres primarily used for slashing and chopping, often called a broadsword in English translation because some varieties have wide blades. In China, the Dao is known as one of the four major weapons, along with the Gun (staff), Qiang (spear) and Jian (sword), and referred to as "The General of All Weapons". It is used to cut, swing, blow, thrust and parry and is manipulated through and intricate set of footwork patterns.

Sabre play has characteristics that are swift, overwhelming and powerful. Sabre play in its daily training can balance the development of the muscles and improve the health and ability of the organs.
