Qigong (Chinse: 气功; Pinyin: qìgōng) is also named as Qikong, Chikung or Chikong. Qigong is a Chinese health care way that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention. It can strengthen physical health, prevent and cure diseases, prolong life and develop potentiality.


Qigong which is origin from China has a long history in China. In ancient China, Qigong was often called Tuna (means breathing in and out; Chinese: 吐纳; Pinyin: tǔnà ), Xingqi (means promoting circulation of Qi; Chinese: 行气; Pinyin: xíngqì), Liandan (means enhancing the energy; Chinese: 炼丹; Pinyin: liàndān), Xiudao (means cultivating one´s spiritual and religious life; Chinese: 修道; Pinyin: xiūdào), Zuochan (means sit in meditation; Chinese: 坐禅; Pinyin: zuòchán), etc.

Qigong was popular in the Remote Ages of China. The classical theory of Qigong was based on the theory for purifying mind and retaining health of traditional Chinese Medicine. The original Qigong was called Wu (dance; Chinese: 舞; Pinyin: wǔ). Qigong was called Daoyin (means inducing and conducting Qi; Chinese: 导引; Pinyin: dǎoyǐn) and Anqiao (means massage; Chinese: 按跷; Pinyin: ànqiāo) in Spring and Autumn Period (Warring States Period). Daoyin Picture which was the first picture about Qigong was found in Mawangdui Han Tombs in Changsha, Hunan Province. There were 44 images in Daoyin Picture which were about ancient people preventing diseases in Qigong.
